CV Lecture Series: The Real Women Veterans of Vietnam

Presented by award-winning journalist Nancy E. Lynch. Inspired by Kristin Hannah's novel The Women, Lynch shares powerful war letters from military nurses and a Donut Dolly, featured in her News Journal column, Nancy's Vietnam Mailbag (19681972). Lynch contrasts real women's experiences with those of Hannah's fictional character, Army nurse Frankie McGrath. About 10,000 American military women served in Vietnam in roles like nursing, intelligence, and communications. Many civilian women also served as Donut Dollies, with the Red Cross, USO, and more. Lynch fulfilled a promise made in 1972 with the 2008 release of her book Vietnam Mailbag, which will be available for $40 after the program. A University of Delaware graduate and author of seven nonfiction books, she lives in Bethel, DE.
