Presented by Thomas Guay.
Former Capitol Hill journalist & author of the novel, Chesapeake Bound. This lecture explores the complex social, political, and economic forces that compelled loyal British subjects such as George Washington to ultimately support the American Revolution. It examines how Britain's victory in the Seven Years' War set in motion a series of events that would ultimately cost the empire its American colonies. Through the experiences of both colonial elites and indentured servants arriving in 1765, the presentation highlights the mounting pressures that reshaped identities, strained loyalties, and transformed devoted subjects of the Crown into reluctant revolutionaries.
